Constitution and Bylaws
Article I – Name
The name of the organization shall be the Dog Town Yacht Club, herein after referred to as the ‘Organization’, or ‘DTYC’.
Article II – Objectives
To promote and encourage design, construction, sailing, and racing of small sailboats.
Article III – Policy
A. Maintain a program, which will ensure continuing interest in the objectives of the Organization.
B. Encourage the participation of all eligible boat owners.
C. Encourage all members to adhere to the United States Sailing Association rules.
Article IV – Membership
Active membership in the Organization shall consist of owners, crews, and supporters of ‘beach’ Boats twenty-three feet (23’) long and under whom have paid their dues as designated below.
Voting shall be by all Members present at a meeting, except that those matters pertaining to races And racing, including the yachts themselves, shall be decided only by vote of the Member sailboat Owners.
Article V – Officers
Officers of DTYC shall consist of a Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Fleet Captain, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Commodore shall be elected annually at the Fall Meeting. All Officers and Committee members shall be appointed at the will of the Commodore.
Article VI – Meetings
There will be two regularly scheduled meetings, one in the winter (pre-season) and one in the fall (Post-season). The Commodore shall select the dates for each. The Commodore may, as He sees fit, convene special meetings.
Article VII – Eligibility of Boats
Yachts must comply, in every respect, with the requirements of the United States Coast Guard to be eligible for DTYC races.
Article VIII – Dues
Annual dues shall be established by the Commodore and approved by vote of the Membership at the winter meeting. The date that dues shall be made due and payable is at the discretion of the Commodore. The members for special events may approve assessments or fund-raisers.
Article IX – Committees
The Commodore may appoint any Committees necessary to further the Objectives of the Organization.
Article X – Government
In all situations not covered under the Constitution and Bylaws, the Commodore shall rule as he sees fit. An appropriate member of DTYC may challenge any decisions made by the Commodore. In such an instance, a majority vote of the membership shall decide the issue.
Article XI – Constitution and Bylaws Amendments
Amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws may be made at any meeting after two(2) weeks written notice to all members. A majority vote of the members present shall be necessary to effect changes.
