Dog Town Yacht Club Notice of Race

‘Round Gwynn Island Race

August 29, 2009

Colonial Beach, Virginia

 

1.     This regatta will be governed by rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, The prescriptions of the U. S. Sailing Association, and the class rules of the competing boats, except as any of these are modified by the sailing instructions.

2.     The regatta is open to all classes.

3.     It is a pursuit race. Your start time will be calculated from your Portsmouth DP-N handicap and modifiers so that, in theory, all boats will finish at 1500. No time signals will be given.

4.     The race will start near mark Q R 15ft 3M “4” located about 300 yards south of Gum Bar Point around a 7.1 mile course in the Potomac River.

 

Directions to the launch ramp from Richmond:

I95 N. to exit 104

Va. 207 E. for 11.4 miles to US 301

US 301 N. for 19.1 miles to Va. 205 at Edgehill. Va. turn right

Va. 205 for 11.4 miles to Va. 205Y Colonial Ave. turn left

Colonial Ave. for .6 miles to Washington Ave. turn right

     Washington Ave. for .3 miles to Boundary St. turn right

Boundary St. for .1 mile to Monroe Bay Ave. turn left

     Monroe Bay Ave. for .9 miles to the state launch ramp on the right.

The start is about .5 miles from the ramp.

 

Camping is available at Monroe Bay Campground.

Their phone numbers are: 804-224-7444 and 804-224-7418. Their ramp is .8 miles to the north of the start on the west side of Monroe Creek.

Be aware of the power line near the ramp.
